Some Figures of Speech

This unit seeks to acquaint students with figures of speech and how they work, with definitions of such writing tools as hyperbole, antithesis, irony, personification, malapropism, and spoonerism. It shows how writers can achieve greater impact through word choice and manipulation, and the use of figures of speech.
